On 12th January, 1915, the 1st Royal Fusiliers battalion of 17 Brigade, 6th Division, moved into the trenches near Chapelle d’Armentières between the Lille to Boulogne road and the Lille to Armentières railway, where they remained until relieved on 16th January. The biggest danger here came from snipers and on 14th January three men from B Company, one of whom was Ernest Willard, were killed by sniper fire. |
